Q3F 2.3 Due Soon! - 06-04-2003 - 16:35 BST - by
Locki
Almost seven months after our last news update, we're finally able to bring you
news and screenshots of Q3F 2.3! It will be packed with ten new and updated
maps from BirdDawg's Level Design Team which has remained busy. Head on over to
the Levels page by clicking right here
, for screenshots and descriptions of the brand new levels!
We hope to have a test build in the hands of Ghetto and our QA team with the
next 1-2 weeks. The maps that are completely new to Q3F are Rock, Canalzone,
Siege and Nocturne, while Smartbases 2, Chaos 3 and Sorrow have been ported
from Beta 1H. Q3F 2.3 will also include updates to Cathedrals, Forts and Bases
along with full PunkBuster support and a number of bug fixes.
As if perfectly timed, we have also been nominated as 'Mod of the Month' for
May 2003's issue of PC Gamer in the States, who said "Q3F takes teamplay to a
whole new level".
As always we invite you head on over to our
forum if you would like to leave us feedback, including the "About
time!" messages I'm sure you are all about to send us :)
Zapped Again - 13-09-2002 - 15:55 BST - by
Locki
During QuakeCon 2001 in Mesquite Texas, RR2DO2, Fluffy, BirdDawg, Vorrik and I
had the pleasure of meeting two Q3F players in person that left a lasting
impression on us; Zapped Again and his daughter, Weasel Girl. Here's an extract
from our QuakeCon 2001 diary
a year ago:
"...We also got to meet several great people - all Q3F players too, the
two that I remember the most were Zapped Again and his daughter Weasel_Girl.
Meeting anybody that plays your game is always nice for the ego, but I was
honestly humbled by the interest shown by Zapped and Weasel - both of them had
a sincere interest in the future of Q3F, and a real concern about the future of
game-play - it made me think of things in a different way."
Earlier this year our Lead Level Designer was offered a job at Ritual in Texas,
and the first person to offer him somewhere to stay was Zapped Again.
In August we found ourselves back in Mesquite for QuakeCon 2002, and again in
the company of Zapped Again and Weasel Girl. We met up with him on the
exhibition floor and arranged to meet for a beer later. This time he stayed for
dinner, and at id Software's local hang out, he introduced me to Petron
Tequilla and shared a number of funny stories. At the end of dinner he paid for
everyone; not just our team from Splash Damage and Q3F, but the whole of the
Urban Terror team too.
To me, Zapped Again was the perfect player. He reminded us of why we make
games. On Tuesday the 10th September he died of a heart attack.
Q3F 2.3 will be dedicated to his memory.

Q3F 2 Official Release Date! - 30-03-2002 - 01:40 GMT - by
Locki
Almost exactly two years after we released Q3F 1 and following around a year of
development, we're finally nearing Q3F 2's release! We need one week to
complete testing of our current release candidates and then we will release on
Saturday April 6th. As always we'll do everything we can to get the release out
mid-evening (GMT) so that all time-zones get to play the new version before the
weekend's over.
We had hoped to release this weekend but issues such as cross-platform
compatibility have held this up. That said, this extra week will also mean our
QA team get a little more time to really search out those frustrating game
issues that will make Q3F 2 all the more enjoyable. As always we appreciate
your feedback - why not join us in #q3f on irc.quakenet.org
for the pre-release party!
DNS Problems - 29-03-2002 - 01:27 GMT - by
RR2DO2
www.q3f.com may not work for
you if you reboot and/or clear your DNS cache. This should be resolved within a
couple of days, but until then please bookmark http://193.41.97.172 and use
that if www.q3f.com stops
working.
Q3F Devathon III - 18-03-2002 - 18:40 GMT - by
Locki
We’ve decided to hold our third Q3F Devathon and have taken over
Splash Damage's
offices for the whole week. Our goal is to complete the final 0.01% of Q3F
2.0's development and we’ll be bringing you updates as development progresses.
Already present in London, England are Locki (project leader), RR2DO2 (Q3F’s
lead coder from the Netherlands), Marauder (our German lead audio guy),
Fluffy_gIMp and Wils (our lead artist and a level designer from the UK), plus
djbob, our other programmer who arrived on a plane from Scotland this
afternoon.
The Q3F dev team members who couldn't be here in person are just as dedicated
to achieving the goal too and BirdDawg (our lead level designer from the
States) is busy polishing and compiling all our maps like mad while Ghetto (our
lead QA guy from Germany) and his assistant Lunox are scheduling test matches
to make sure no nasty crash-worthy bugs make it out.
Why not stop by #q3f on irc.quakenet.org
to join the Devathon party! There are over 120 people there already.
